So far so good, here are few African American artists who has given African artist a spot to join the league of internationals.
5. Jidenna
Real names Jidenna Theodore Mobisson (born May 4, 1985), better known by his stage name Jidenna is proudly a Nigerian by birth. After his “Classic Man” breakthrough, Jidenna has lived up to expections in the States.
Although, he has not done anything official with African acts but alot of goddies is on the box. From news source, Nigerian acts like Wizkid, Banky W and Tiwa Savage have been rumoured to feature him on their various record yet to be released.
Well, lets see what the future holds. Finger-crossed!
4. Wale
Real names Olubowale Victor Akintimehin (born September 21, 1984), better known by his stage name Wale is also a proud Nigerian. His both parents are “Yorubas”.
Wale became a house hold name having been signed to Maybach Music owned by Rick Ross in 2011. Ever since, he has impressive records that made the US top charts.
Wale has shown his love for Nigerian vibes numerous times. From the list, he has worked with Olamide, Wizkid, Reminisce, Lil Kesh, Davido and more.
3. Major Lazor
Major Lazer is an electronic dance music trio composed of record producer Diplo, DJs Jillionaire and Walshy Fire. Having been underground, they sprung up to limelight with their hit track “Lean On”, which featured DJ Snake and MØ.
The song was first offered to Rihanna and then Nicki Minaj who both rejected.
In July 2016, a new track titled “Cold Water”, featuring vocals from MØ and Justin Bieber, was released by Major Lazer. It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
It is unofficial, but the group have been linked to an African background. Recently, they drop a mixtape titled “Africa is the future” Vol. 2 which featured alot of Afrocentric sounds and melodies.
Thoroughly, they have aimed to put Africa as centre of music world wide. They have imported they likes of Fuse ODG, DJ Maphorisa, Nasty C, Ice Prince, Patoranking, Wizkid, Skales, Yung L and lots more into the league of the internationals.
2. French Montana
Suprised at the list is the “Unforgettable” Morrocan American rapper French Montana. Real names Karim Kharbouch (born November 9, 1984). He is the founder of Coke Boys Records.
He officially debuted in 2012, after he signed a joint-venture recording deal with Bad Boy Records and Maybach Music Group. He made hits after hits which landed him top featured artist in the States.
In July 2017, Montana released his sophomore studio album, Jungle Rules, which peaked at number 3 on the US Billboard 200.
The album was supported by the single “Unforgettable”, featuring Swae Lee which became Montana’s first song as lead artist to reach the top 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
His previous visuals to this platinum hit “Unforgettable” shows the love he has for his continent Africa. The video was shot in the streets of Uganda which displays the elegance and happiness of the people.
Counting down, he has also been one of the distinguished African American act pivoting the Afro genre to the world. He has collobarated on records with Ice Prince, Wizkid, Mr. Eazi, Nasty C, Cassper Nyovest and more.
1. Akon
Real names Aliaume Damala Badara Akon Thiam (born April 16, 1973), better known as Akon is an American-born Senegalese singer. He conquered the music world with his first single “Locked Up” off his debut album “Trouble”.
He is the first solo artist to hold both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts twice. Records after records, albums after albums, Akon has been consistent with the fire.
He has worked with the various hip hop giants in America. His “Hold My Hands” which featured the Late Legend Michael Jackson will always be a breathe of fresh hair to soul listeners.
Down to Africa, Akon has been a door opener to African acts. Not only been featured on but has also linked African acts to other American acts (Psquare and Rick Ross, 2baba and T Pain).
From Senegal to Tanzania to South Africa to Nigeria and to Ghana, Akon has been a leader and same time a supporter of Africa tunes to the world.
He has featured on sounds from Psquare, May D, Dbanj, Wizkid, Davido, Runtown, Donaeo, Senegalese artists Bobaaand Youssou N’Dour, South Africa’s Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Zimbabwe’s Jah Prayzah and the DRC’s Fally Ipupa etc.

[KL Gist] OMG!! FG To Turn Fela’s House To Museum
The Federal Government has revealed plans to turn the ancestral home of afrobeat legend and activist Fela Anikulapo-Kuti into a museum.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said this while visiting the musician’s ancestral home in Ogun State, along with Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Punch reports.
Mohammed said Fela will be immortalised by turning the house located on NEPA Road, Isabo, Abeokuta, into a museum.
The museum will be inaugurated “very soon, probably next year,” he said, describing the plan as laudable and admirable. He said:
It is laudable in the sense that this is one of the most positive steps to actually put our rhetorics into action.
We have always said that one of the important assets we have is our cultural heritage, our history and this project, which is going to immortalise the Ransome-Kuti family, is laudable and admirable.
The family, as you know, represent different things to different people, whether you talk about education, emancipation, music or entertainment.
Therefore, this attempt by the government at immortalising the family by preserving and restoring the ancestral home is very commendable.
This is the period we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the death of the maestro himself and I am sure this is within time, as the museum will be inaugurated very soon, probably next year.
The emphasis of this government, whether state or federal, is that the creative industry must be turned into creative economy and this centre is going to be a good model to encourage and inspire the youth.
Amosun described Fela as someone who was ahead of his time.
The Kuti family conquered the world, he said, not just Ogun State or Nigeria. He said:
All our icons have a special place in our administration. These are the people who define us, when we go out there and say we are from Ogun State. We can’t call ourselves who we say we are without those giants who lived before us. They laid the foundation that we are all building upon.
And, clearly, the Kuti family is one of those illustrious families that conquered the world, not only Ogun Sate or Abeokuta or Nigeria . Indeed, at times when I am away in the US and I take a cab, the music I hear is that of great Fela himself.
Fela was far ahead of his time. For us, it will be in our interest to let people know his origin, his root.

The man of God, identified as Pastor Busoga of Uganda says he is so holy that he can’t walk on ground so as not to be contaminated.
As a result of this, the church members had to submit their bodies as a stepping stone for the man of God to step on while coming into the church for their usual church services.

Hard work and consistency did earn him a spot in our imagined music hall of fame and yes, it is a well-deserved spot
Alaga Ibile , as he is fondly called made a name for himself as an indie artist until he launched Les Roses Rouges [LRR] records and in 2014 signed on singer Sojay, whom he described as the ”baddest vocalist on the block.”
Now, as we all know, label executive take on a new acts for two major reasons; the monetary gains and to build that act into his or her own boss [this is what Olamide has managed to achieve].
However, in the case of Reminisce and his ‘no album’ boys, won se customer dada mehn!

Despite his amazing vocal prowess and experience in the industry Sojay, is still struggling to find a place in the Music industry
The Nigerian music industry is choked with undeserving yet celebrated artistes, but of course, how does he find a spot for himself when, since signing to LRR, in 2014, has released just a handful of songs to include his last EP which I am certain only a selected few to include his immediate family, LRR family and maybe his twitter followers are aware of.

I mean come on now, this is raw gold here,raw gold that doesn’t even need so much work to bring out it’s beauty but of course, we gotta do what the brings in the not even forthcoming money, yeah? I want to believe M.I Abaga ‘s You Rappers Should Fix Up Your Life, is targeted at rappers like Oladips who sold their rap birthrights in a bid to remain relevant, but shouldn’t, as in this case I strongly see the ‘ prescription ‘ inspired writing of the label all over it.

OLADIPS WAS HOTTER BEFORE SIGNING A RECORD DEAL
Before his deal with the label, this young man single-handedly built his name to a top level and many other Rappers both Upcoming and Already established ones shivered at the mere mention of his name.
His lyrics, punchlines, delivery and hunger for music, worked amazing magic for him as he was well on the way to becoming the most sort young indigenous rapper until he signed his career off to the label.
Dips, as he is fondly called by his ‘ Dipsciples ,’ since joining LRR 24 months ago, has just 6 songs to his name, under the label to include his horribly titled latest ‘Lalakukula ‘ [story for another day], lets put it this way, the label only required his amazing talent every other three months, last year, and every 6 months this year… …. amazing managerial and leadership sturv LRR.
The only thing, keeping this young Rapper sorry Singer from drowning in this ”pathetic self-brought overpowering waters” c, is his barely there features which of recent has not only drastically reduced in numbers but, in punchlines and delivery as well.
REMINISCE SIGNING NEW ACTS WHEN THE ALREADY SIGNED ONES ARE STILL STRUGGLING
Now with these, Oladips is yet to make a career breakthrough acts on the label, Reminisce , again, added more acts to the label; Akeem Adisa and Yovi .
So far both seem to still be in their element but again…it’s just the start of their year in the label, let’s hope they don’t get stuck as the others did.
Finally, owning a label and signing on new acts is like parenting, you want the best for your kids. However, this doesn’t seem to be the case in LRR’s case as the boys are wallowing in pure non-music pain. Let them make some good music….scratch that, let them make any music as long as they are making something, thats why they were signed right?
We love Reminisce, but is owning and running a record label really for him?

[Gist] RIP !! Today Is Da Grin ’ s 30th Posthumous Birthday ( Which Of His Songs Did You Like )
Oladapo Olaitan Olaonipekun, also known as Dagrin (21 October 1987 – 22 April 2010), was an award-winning Nigerian rapper from Ogun, Nigeria. A film of his life entitled Ghetto Dreamz was released in April 2011.
Dagrin’s home was in Meiran, Alagbado, Lagos. His style of rapping incorporated Yoruba, English and Pidgin English. In 2010 he was nominated for the Nigerian Entertainment Awards for Best Album (C.E.O.), Hottest Single “Pon Pon Pon”, Best Rap Act and Best Collaboration with vocals.
His album C.E.O. (Chief executive Omota, English: Chief Executive Gangster) won the Hip hop World Award 2010 for best rap album. From it came the singles “Pon Pon Pon”, and “Kondo”. Dagrin worked with other Nigerian artists such as Y.Q, 9ice, M.I, Iceberg Slim,omobaba,terry g,code,MISTAR DOLLAR, TMD entertainment, omowumi, chudy k, Bigiano, and Konga.
He associated with music producers like Sossick, Dr Frabz, Sheyman, Frenzy and 02. He died at the age of 22 on 22 April 2010 after a vehicle accident in Lagos, Nigeria.

Where did you originate from?
Osun state
Are you an Undergraduate?
Yes! I'm an undergraduate. I'm a student of Les Cours Conou University, Cotonou, I'm studying International Relations (200Level)
What do you love doing apart from Modeling?
I love taking pictures, and also travelling
How did your Modeling career started?
My modeling career started when i saw a picture on my sister's phone.. Even before then, i and my sister went for a birthday shoot and the photographer was like wow.. I love your skills..
Would you love to be a model?
And I told him i would think about it. That was how it all started.
What are you aiming for in your career?
To be a famous model and a role model to the upcoming models.
What's the best advice you've ever received?
When they told me not to look at what people say.. That definitely, people would say negative things about me.. That i should just face my career
What’s one of the most interesting shoots that you’ve done?
A village setting
Which five words would your friends use to describe you?
I'm funny, jovial, i have a bad mouth, I’m emotional and I don't keep grudges
